Kane Williamson’s retirement from international cricket has marked the end of an iconic chapter in world cricket. For many fans, it also signals the closing of the celebrated ‘Fab Four’ era, featuring Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Williamson — a group that defined modern batting excellence for more than a decade. While tributes have poured in from across the cricketing world, New Zealand star Rachin Ravindra offered one of the most heartfelt reactions.

Speaking to TalkSport Cricket, the young batting all-rounder revealed how emotional he felt when Williamson personally informed the team about his decision to retire. According to Ravindra, the New Zealand squad had gathered in the dressing room when Williamson shared the news. The moment left a deep impact on the 26-year-old, who admitted he was close to tears after hearing the announcement.
“Yeah, it was quite emotional. We had just gathered in the team room, and then he told us. I felt like I was going to cry. It’s not even about me; it’s because he has been the trailblazer and the maverick for New Zealand cricket for such a long time,” Rachin Ravindra said.
For Ravindra, Williamson was far more than a teammate. Like countless young cricketers around the world, he grew up watching and admiring the former New Zealand captain. His influence extended beyond statistics, inspiring an entire generation through his humility, consistency, and leadership. Ravindra also mentioned former New Zealand great Ross Taylor, describing both Williamson and Taylor as childhood heroes who shaped his understanding of the game.
“Throughout my teenage years, I was watching him. He was the batter everyone wanted to be. He and Ross Taylor were the heroes for many of us growing up,” he added.

The young all-rounder believes Williamson’s legacy will continue to inspire cricketers for years to come. He praised the veteran batter for handling every stage of his career with class and remaining grounded despite achieving extraordinary success.
“I’m very happy for Kane and the timing of his decision. He always stayed humble despite everything he achieved. He did things his own way, and that’s what makes him special. His career will be celebrated for many years,” Rachin Ravindra said.
Williamson retires as one of New Zealand’s greatest-ever cricketers. Across 110 Test matches, he scored 9,515 runs at an outstanding average of 54.06, including 33 centuries and 38 half-centuries. His remarkable record, calm leadership, and unwavering consistency have cemented his place among the finest batters of the modern era.
