The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has affected the world severely. it has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown for safety and to contain the spread of the virus. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate as all matches have either been canceled or rescheduled. There were increased concerns over the future of ICC Men’s T 20 World Cup due to the same. However, ICC has announced they would be going ahead as scheduled earlier.
The ICC statement read, “In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee is monitoring the situation closely with relevant authorities and will continue to do so. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 18 October 15 November 2020 in seven venues across Australia. We are planning for the event to go ahead as scheduled.”

The 7th edition of the ICC Men’s T 20 World Cup was scheduled to take place in Australia starting on 18th October. Australia just like other countries across the globe has fallen to the pandemic spread of the COVID-19 virus. If things worsen, the tournament might be postponed but as of now, the tournament will proceed as originally planned.
This would come as a great piece of news for fans who have have been away from cricketing action for quite a while. Indian’s Premier Cricketing event the IPL is still uncertain to happen due to the increasing number of cases across India.
The pandemic spread of the virus has affected more than 4,310 people across India taking away more than 118 lives. Originated in China, the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 1,276,570 people so far. It is also responsible for killing over 69,520 people globally.

From BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and other prominent cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina MS Dhoni, the Pathan brothers, Irrfan and Yusuf have also donated money and decided to help the local governments fight the COVID-19 virus. Athletes like Mithali Raj and Poonam Yadav and WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have contributed in whichever way they can to fight the pandemic.
