Hours after India’s stunning T20I series defeat to Ireland, Iceland Cricket lit up social media with a savage dig at head coach Gautam Gambhir. The official X account of the associate nation mocked India’s unexpected collapse, turning a routine post-match reaction into a viral cricket moment.

In its post, Iceland Cricket said it had no intention of adding Gambhir to its coaching staff, while sarcastically praising his “remarkable” ability to guide a star-studded India side to defeat in Ireland. The message spread rapidly across social media, drawing plenty of reactions from fans who were already debating India’s poor showing in the series.
The comment added another layer of embarrassment to an already disappointing result for Indian cricket. India had toured Ireland for a two-match T20I series just three months after successfully defending their T20 World Cup crown.

However, under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, the visitors lost both games and returned home with plenty to think about. India went down by 34 runs in the series opener in Belfast before Ireland edged the second T20I by just one run in a rain-hit contest on Sunday.
We can confirm that we don’t wish to add Gautam Gambhir to our coaching staff. He clearly has talent, though. To take those Indian players and deliver those results in Ireland takes truly remarkable gifts.

While India’s bowling attack produced several encouraging spells across both matches, the batting unit failed to rise to the occasion. Skipper Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who had entered the series with high expectations, were among the batters who could not make a meaningful impact when it mattered most. The defeat exposed India’s middle-order concerns and left their T20I setup under scrutiny.
Iyer, who became only the second Indian captain to lose his first two T20Is in charge, will now be desperate to turn things around in the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. India travel later this week, with the opening game set for the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on July 1.

The second match will be played at Old Trafford on July 4, followed by fixtures in Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton on July 7, 9 and 11. There is also growing excitement around 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Included in the squad for the Ireland series but left unused, the teenage prodigy could be in line for his India debut against England, especially after back-to-back defeats intensified calls for fresh energy in the playing XI.
