On Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI), a political party of Pakistan, Fawad Chaudhry has revealed that Pakistan’s World Cup winning captain Imran Khan has invited legendary India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Navjot Singh Sidhu for his oath-taking ceremony as the Prime Minister of his country.

Speaking to the media outside Pakistan’s Supreme Court, Chaudhry said that former India cricketers have been invited to attend Khan’s swearing-in, which is reportedly scheduled to take place on August 11. While Dev and Gavaskar haven’t accepted the invitation publicly yet, Punjab Cabinet Minister Sidhu has confirmed that he will be traveling to Pakistan for the ceremony.

In a recent statement, Sidhu said, “It is (a) great honor, I accept the invitation. Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared, but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted. Sportsmen build bridges, break barriers, unite people.”

The PTI, led by 65-year-old Khan, has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly after the July 25 elections, but it is still short of numbers to form the government on its own. Imran’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has emerged as the single largest party in the 2018 Elections but would still need coalition partners in order to form the government.

Gavaskar, who became a well-known commentator after calling time on international cricket, was once doing commentary in the Asia Cup 2012 during a match between India and Bangladesh alongside former Pakistani batsman Ramiz Raja. In a conversation where Ramiz mimicked Imran a little while narrating an incident, Gavaskar warned his counterpart to not do so as the man he is mimicking could become the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.
