The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the Indian Test squad for their upcoming tour of the West Indies, scheduled to commence next month. Along with the two-match Test series, India will also compete in three ODIs and five T20Is during their two-month excursion in the Caribbean.
The first Test is set to take place in Dominica from July 12, followed by the second Test starting on July 20 in Trinidad. The three ODIs are scheduled for July 27 and July 29 in Barbados, and August 1 in Tarouba, Trinidad. Additionally, the first T20I will be held in Tarouba on August 3, while the second and third matches will be played in Providence, Guyana on August 6 and 8 respectively. The last two T20Is will take place in Fort Lauderhill, USA, on August 12 and 13.

The Indian Test squad for the two-match series will be led by Rohit Sharma, with Ajinkya Rahane assuming the role of vice-captain. Key players such as Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Jaydev Unadkat, who were part of the WTC 2023 squad, have also been included. Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat have been named as the designated wicketkeepers in the squad.
Regrettably, Cheteshwar Pujara’s name was absent from the list, while Mohammad Shami has been given a rest, with Navdeep Saini called up in his place. In terms of fresh faces, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar have also earned spots in the Test squad.

These two Test matches will mark the beginning of the new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC 2023-25) for both India and the West Indies. It presents an exciting opportunity for the Indian team to showcase their skills and kick-start their journey in the championship on a positive note.
