The BCCI on Tuesday announced India’s women’s cricket squad for the 2026 Asian Games, with Harmanpreet Kaur set to continue as captain as the defending champions prepare to defend their gold medal in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, this September. Despite India’s disappointing group-stage exit from the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, the selectors have retained faith in Harmanpreet’s leadership.

The Women in Blue failed to reach the knockout stage after suffering defeats against South Africa and Australia, but the experienced skipper will once again lead the side in a major multi-sport event.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has retained her role as Harmanpreet’s deputy. One of the biggest talking points in the squad is the inclusion of all-rounder Shreyanka Patil, who was ruled out of the Women’s T20 World Cup because of an ankle injury. The BCCI has confirmed that her participation in the Asian Games will depend on receiving fitness clearance before the tournament.

There is also one notable change from India’s recent World Cup squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been left out, with promising youngster G Kamalini earning a place in the squad instead. The selection reflects India’s continued focus on building depth while preparing for future global tournaments.

India will enter the 2026 Asian Games as the team to beat after winning the women’s cricket gold medal at the previous edition in Hangzhou, China. With a balanced squad featuring experienced campaigners and exciting young talent, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will be aiming to successfully defend their continental crown and add another major title to Indian women’s cricket.
