The Indian Cricket Family Comes Forward To Support Jacob Martin, Who Is On Life Support

According to media reports, the former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin is currently on life support and his family has urged for the financial support. In the response, the Indian cricket family has come forward to support the former cricketer and his family.

On December 28, the 46-year-old former Indian and Baroda cricketer Jacob Martin met with a serious road accident that causes injuries to his lungs and liver and currently he is on a ventilator. His family has urged to the cricket families to help raise funds for his treatment.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) have already come up to help the family. While the BCA has contributed INR 3 lakh, the BCCI has already sanctioned INR 5 lakh.

According to The Telegraph, the Kolkata-based daily English newspaper, the former BCCI and BCA secretary Sanjay Patel said, “Once I came to know about the accident I tried to help Jacob’s family in every possible way. I have spoken to a few well-wishers, including Samarjitsinh Gaekwad (member of the former ruling family of Baroda and former BCA president) who donated Rs 1 lakh and accumulated around Rs 5 lakh for his treatment.

“The hospital bills have already crossed Rs 11 lakh, and at one point, the hospital had even stopped providing medicine. The BCCI deposited the amount directly and the treatment hasn’t been affected thereafter.”

Also, the former Indian captain and the present President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly has come up to help the family. Martin, who played 10 ODIs from 1999 to 2001, made his international cricket debut under Ganguly’s captaincy.

Ganguly quoted according to The Telegraph, “Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person. While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone.”

Apart from Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer and present Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, the former Indian pacer Munaf Patel, the Indian all-rounders Irfan and Yusuf Pathan have also assured to help raise funds.

Patel added, “It’s overwhelming that Zaheer Khan, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Sourav and Ravi, among others, have come forward to extend a helping hand in this time of distress for Martin’s family.”
