In a deeply tragic incident that has shaken the nation, an Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on the afternoon of June 12, 2025. The aircraft, carrying 231 passengers and 11 crew members—including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian—met with disaster just minutes after departing from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:38 PM.

The crash site was alarmingly close to the BJ Medical College campus, where students were reportedly having lunch at the time. Initial reports indicate that five medical students lost their lives, and several others were injured. As rescue operations continue and more details emerge, the nation has come together in collective mourning. Several top Indian sportspersons, including cricketers and Olympians, expressed their heartfelt condolences on social media.

India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared a message on Instagram: “Really sad and disturbing news from Ahmedabad. Prayers for all the lives lost and their families.”

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu expressed her grief, stating, “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of all 242 souls on board. May love surround every grieving heart.”

Suresh Raina tweeted: “Absolutely devastated… my heartfelt prayers for all the lives lost. We stand united in grief.”
