The aircraft, carrying 231 passengers and 11 crew members—including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian—met with disaster just minutes after departing from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:38 PM.
The crash site was alarmingly close to the BJ Medical College campus, where students were reportedly having lunch at the time. Initial reports indicate that five medical students lost their lives, and several others were injured. As rescue operations continue and more details emerge, the nation has come together in collective mourning. Several top Indian sportspersons, including cricketers and Olympians, expressed their heartfelt condolences on social media.
