The Indian men’s cricket team was scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025 for a white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. As per the initial itinerary released by the BCCI through an X post last month, the matches were to be split between two prominent venues — four at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka and two at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.

However, fresh reports suggest that the tour is now in serious jeopardy due to rising diplomatic tensions involving India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. According to a report published by the Times of India on May 2, there is growing uncertainty over the series.

A source tracking developments closely told TOI, “The tour is part of the calendar, but nothing is final yet. There is a bright possibility of India not touring Bangladesh for the ODIs and T20Is because of the current situation.”

The controversy intensified after a retired Bangladeshi army officer, Maj Gen (retired) ALM Fazlur Rahman, who reportedly holds influence within the interim government, made a provocative statement on social media. He suggested that Bangladesh should consider occupying India’s northeastern states if India were to attack Pakistan and even proposed forming a joint military alliance with China.

“If India attacks Pakistan, Bangladesh should occupy seven states of northeast India. In this regard, I think it is necessary to start a discussion on a joint military system with China,” Rahman wrote on Facebook.

While there has been no official cancellation, the situation has cast a shadow over the tour’s feasibility. “A full boycott can’t be ruled out, but no concrete decision has been taken,” the report added.

Moreover, the 2025 Asia Cup, slated for September and hosted by India, might also be affected. Sources suggest that given the rising geopolitical tensions, the Indian government is adopting a firm stance, making cricketing engagements with neighboring countries increasingly uncertain. With the regional atmosphere turning tense, the India-Bangladesh series and the future of the Asia Cup now hang in the balance.
