Indian players set for the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka have begun assembling in Bangalore for a six-day training and conditioning camp, scheduled to commence at the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) Three Ovals campus in Alur. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has emphasized the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) responsibility to ensure the players’ fitness in light of the upcoming World Cup 2023 and to prevent any further injuries, especially to injury-prone individuals like captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

The NCA, in collaboration with physiotherapists, doctors, and trainers, has formulated a rigorous regimen encompassing diet and exercise to maintain the players’ physical and mental fitness as they prepare for the impending home World Cup. Players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, who returned from the West Indies and were not part of the T20I series in West Indies or Ireland, along with Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami, have been given a 13-day fitness program.

This program was designed to enhance their overall fitness and avert any potential injuries, concluding just before their arrival at the NCA. The specialized fitness plan, implemented from August 9 to 22, aimed to ensure the players’ peak physical and mental conditions, customized to each player’s strengths and specific areas of focus.

Of the 18 Asia Cup-bound players, 15 have already reached Bangalore, while the remaining three – Bumrah, Prasidh, and Samson – currently in Ireland, are scheduled to arrive on Thursday. They will then fly to Sri Lanka for the tournament next week.
