Before the ICC World Cup 2015, India never won a match against South Africa in World Cups. However, history was rewritten in this match. India batted first and Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan smacked a brilliant 137 off 146 balls and with Rahane, who made 79, added 125 runs for India. It was Dhawan’s day as he didn’t give any freedom to the bowlers.
During his innings, Dhawan was looking good for a bigger score, when he got out going for quick runs. India scored 307/7. Ashwin scalped 3 wickets for 41 runs and prevented Africa from going beyond 177 runs to win the match for India by 130 runs.
3. AB de Villiers 119
It was the highest scoring ODI ever played in India, when South Africa amassed as many as 438/4 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, and their highest ODI total ever. The Proteas batsmen like Quinton de Kock (109 in 87 balls), Faf du Plessis (133 in 115 balls) and AB de Villiers (119 in 61 balls) helped hem to reach that total.
Out of the three centuries, AB de Villiers was the overwhelming of all. He smashed the century in just 57 deliveries with 11 sixes and 3 fours under his belt. He was crucial reason for South Africa to go beyond 430 odd. Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for 106 runs in his 10 overs and dismissed De Villiers.
India only managed to score 224 runs thanks to 60 from Dhawan and 87 from Rahane, as Rabada (4/39) devastated Indian batsmen and Africa won the match by a huge margin of 214 runs, India’s worst loss by runs in India.
