During the 30th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Pune, Shreyas Iyer, captain of Delhi Daredevils, got involved in a mix-up which meant curtains for his innings.

After Iyer put the home team in to bat, Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis started the innings on a watchful note, but picked up after the first few overs. The duo ended up sharing a 102-run stand for the first wicket. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni came in to bat in the 14th over after Watson was dismissed by Amit Mishra. Dhoni did not waste time in getting his eye in, playing his shots from the word go. Rayudu, on the other end, provided equal support to his captain.

KM Asif, who made his IPL debut tonight, drew first blood in the second innings as he removed the Daredevils’ openers cheaply. After losing their openers without contributing much in a 212-run chase, Delhi Daredevils required Iyer to play substantial innings.

However, Iyer failed to stand tall on the expectations. On the final delivery of the seventh over, Iyer played a Ravindra Jadeja delivery to Watson at covers. In desperate search of runs, Iyer called for an impossible run. Rishabh Pant, who was at the non-striker’s end, refused to run, post which there was no option left for Iyer. He ended up scoring 13 (14) with the help of one four.
