The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fast bowler Tim Southee didn’t have a pleasing game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as first he conceded runs with an average of more than 10 per over without picking any wickets and now according to the latest reports he has been reprimanded for a Level 1 offense under Article 2.1.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials on Thursday (May 17). The sanction was confirmed by the BCCI is their recent media release.

However, the media release didn’t reveal any reason for the sanction. But, it is very much understood that Southee has been reprimanded because of his reactions after the decision made by the third umpire in the second innings of the game.

During the third over of the match, SRH opener Alex Hales smashed the ball in the direction of deep square leg boundary and Tim came running towards the ball, only to take a spectacular catch with the help of a full-length dive. However, the on-field umpires decided to go upstairs to get the decision confirmed. The soft signal given by them was out. Here is the video of the incident:

The third umpire, Shamsuddin was satisfied with the conclusive evidence to overturn the decision and ruled it not out. A very unhappy RCB skipper Virat Kohli was seen surprised at the call. It is understood that Southee’s gestures have seen him face these sanctions. He has accepted the sanction and hence, there will be no further hearing in the case.

Apart from that incident, the reports also suggest that the sanctions might have also been raised as Tim had shown disrespect to the disrespect cricket equipment in the game. In the 19th over of the game, Manish Pandey clobbered one down the ground and Grandhomme let the ball slip through his legs. Southee looked visibly unhappy with it and crashed his hands on the stumps.

Reacting to the decision of the catch, Southee spoke after the match and said, “I thought that catch was taken cleanly, it looks a lot worse on TV but it’s the third umpire’s decision and in the end, we won the game which was more important.”
