In the day match played at the MCA Stadium, Pune, Chennai Super Kings kept down Royal Challengers Bangalore to 127 runs in their first innings. There were only two RCB batsmen who got into the double digits and it was CSK spinners who dominated the day. Chennai now has a modest target of 128 runs ahead of them.

Jadeja after dismissing Kohli.

Earlier in the day, Chennai captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to field first. CSK made three changes to the previous playing XI. They dropped FAF Du Plessis, Karn Sharma, and KM Asif. They handed the debut to David Willey and brought back Shardul Thakur and Dhruv Shorey.

RCB also had to make plenty of changes to the team composition since Quinton De Kock returned to South Africa for his wedding. ABD was fit and came into the team straight away. Parthiv Patel replaced De Kock and McCullum kept his place. Murugan Ashwin came in the place of Sundar.

The start from RCB was quiet as Brendon McCullum was out in the second over to Lungi Ngidi. Parthiv Patel, who did not seem rusty at all, then stitched a 38-run partnership with Virat Kohli. Virat contribution in the partnership was only 8.

The collapse of RCB began once Kohli got out. He was deceived by Jadeja’s straighter delivery. ABD soon returned out stumped on the bowling of Harbhajan. Parthiv reached his fifty and was set to take the innings deep but he fell victim to Jadeja and RCB now found themselves at 84/5. Soon the situation jumped to 89/8.

Tim Southee added 36 runs on his own in the company of Mohammad Siraj to make the score triple-digit. Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/18.  Chennai will consider themselves favorite against this low total.
