Chennai Super Kings finished in a spectacular style against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MCA Stadium, Pune to claim the top spot in the IPL points table. RCB with this loss now have to win every match that they play. batting first, RCB failed to post a competitive total and they were defending a very low total. MS Dhoni finished the match which ultimately became the turning point of the match.
CSK began promisingly but lost the opener, Shane Watson, quickly. Rayudu and Raina started the rebuilding process and were driving the chase cautiously. RCB struck and nicked out both Rayudu, Raina and the debutant Shorey. MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bavo took the responsibility.
When Yuzendra Chahal, two overs – one maiden- sever runs so far, started the 19th over with Chennai needed 22 runs from the last three overs. Under pressure, Chahal bowled the first ball as wide. He managed to cram Dhoni for room on the next ball, no runs.
By then, Dhoni became aware of the pitch conditions and prepared himself better. He smacked the next ball for a six over midwicket. Next ball from Chahal was faster one, in the process of bowling it though, he overstepped and the no-ball was given. MSD took the initiative and blasted next two balls for sixes. The match was over by the sixth ball.
MS Dhoni remained not out with his 31* off 23 balls that included three sixes in the last overs. Chahal’s figures settled down to 3-1-29-0. Chennai won the match with six wickets remaining.
