During the final match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets to clinch their third IPL title.

After Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and put Sunrisers Hyderabad in to bat, they ended up scoring 178-6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. In which was a complete batting unit, several Sunrisers’ batsmen were seen playing fruitful knocks.

Deepak Chahar and Lungi Ngidi, Chennai Super Kings’ opening bowlers, conceded a combined 51 runs in the eight overs that they bowled. Their individual spells were crucial in restricting the opposition to a total that wasn’t impossible to chase.

Watson scored three sixes in three balls.

In the second innings, Chennai Super Kings did not get off to the best of starts. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sandeep Sharma bowled a testing couple of overs each. In the first four overs, Chennai had scored 16-1.

However, they recovered quickly from a super slow start to a position form where they seemed in likeliness of sealing the chase. Shane Watson, who opened the batting for the Super Kings alongside Faf du Plessis, struggled big time at the start. Before scoring his fourth IPL century, Watson couldn’t score a run for the first 10 deliveries which he faced.

What came as the turning point of the game was during the sixth over of the second innings of the match when Watson hit a six and a four off consecutive deliveries against Sandeep Sharma. In which an act of breaking the shackles, Watson did not stop after this over as he ended up sealing the chase for his team.

In an innings in which he was mostly unstoppable, he ended up scoring 117* (57) with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes.
