During the 30th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Pune, Shreyas Iyer, captain of Delhi Daredevils, opted for a review on the first ball of the match.

Having won the toss, Iyer decided to bowl first. The Daredevils fielded an unchanged playing eleven. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings made four changes to their playing eleven. Faf du Plessis, Karn Sharma, KM Asif and Lungi Ngidi were included in place of Sam Billings, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Imran Tahir.

Watson survived an appeal on the first ball.

On the first ball of the match, Trent Boult bowled an inswinger to Shane Watson. Being completely beaten by the delivery, Watson was struck on his front pad. After being ruled not out by the umpire, Boult signalled to his captain to opt for the review.

Upon several replays, it was evident that the ball hadn’t hit Watson’s bat. Furthermore, there was no conclusive evidence of the ball hitting the stumps. As a result, Watson survived the appeal.
