Yesterday, Rajasthan Royals cruised to a famous win against the home team Royal Challengers Bangalore in a close-fought game. As if the heart-stopping action from the match was not enough, one of the fans at the stadium decided to get up-close and barged onto the field. The stadium security was quick and alert, they captured the gatecrasher and he was soon taken out of the action.

The incident took place in the day match played at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore. The first match of the night featured Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Team RCB was playing in green as has been their annual tradition as the respect for the environment. Visitors batted first and raised a massive total of 217/4.

Royal Challengers started the chase positively. After the premature departure of Brendon McCullum, De Kock and Virat Kohli manhandled the RR bowlers. They were well on the way until Kohli and ABD lost their wickets. Mandeep Singh and Washington Sundar later tried their best by staging up a super quick 50-runs partnership but the required run-rate was too high.

Amidst all these happenings on the pitch, one of the fans viewing the action from the stadium decided to barge in. He sprinted from his seat and crossed the barriers to storm onto the turf. Security was nearby, and they stopped the fan disrupting the action quickly.

The footage was not shown on the TV and the channels started airing advertisements when this incident took place. Everyone present at the stadium took note of this, though. Although no official announcement has come out yet, the fan is likely to be banned for life from watching matches at the Bangalore home ground.

Such incidents are quite common in foreign grounds as there are fewer barriers. There have been a few such incidents in India also. There have been fans who have barged in touch the feet of Sachin or Dhoni, while one fan came in to ask for Suresh Raina’s autograph.
