On Sunday night, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered an 8-wicket defeat (with 9 balls to spare) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai) in the final of IPL 2018. With that result, SRH finished the tournament as the runner-up while CSK won the IPL trophy for the third time.

CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to field first after winning the toss. With the help of some important knocks from the skipper Kane Williamson, Yusuf Pathan and Carlos Brathwaite, SRH managed to put 178/6 on the board at the end of 20 overs.

In reply, Shane Watson’s brilliant unbeaten century knock helped the team to secure a comfortable victory. His knock helped the team to chase down the target in 18.3 overs after losing just 2 wickets.

Now, we will briefly talk about some important reasons for SRH’s defeat in this game.

None of the SRH batsmen played a big innings in this crucial game. At first, the openers fell to low scores as Shreevats Goswami and Shikhar Dhawan scored 5 and 26 runs respectively. Skipper Kane Williamson played a 47-run knock but was stumped out at the crucial stage.

Later, Shakib Al Hasan and Deepak Hooda were dismissed on 23 runs and 3 runs respectively. Yusuf Pathan (45* off 25 balls) and Carlos Brathwaite (21 runs off 11 balls) played some crucial knocks at the end to secure a good fighting total on the board.

To put a big total on the board, at least one player always needs to play a big knock. But here, none of SRH batsmen even completed the half-century.
