Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the IPL 2018 trophy after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2018 final at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai) on Sunday night. SRH scored 178/6 in 20 overs while CSK chased down that target successfully in 18.3 overs after losing just 2 wickets.
CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to bowl first after winning the toss. While the SRH opener Shreevats Goswami (5 runs) was dismissed cheaply, another opener Shikhar Dhawan put 51-run partnership for the second wicket with the skipper Kane Williamson.
After Dhawan departed on 26 runs, Williamson carried that innings with Shakib AL Hasan. Williamson (47 runs off 36 balls) was stumped out after the team crossed the 100-run mark. Shakib scored 23 runs off 15 balls while Deepak Hooda was caught out after scoring just 3 runs.
Yusuf Pathan played a good role in the late innings along with Carlos Brathwaite to secure a fighting total on the board. Pathan remained unbeaten on 45 runs off just 25 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes while Brathwaite scored 21 runs off just 11 balls (3 sixes) and was dismissed on the final delivery in that innings. SRH finally managed to score 178/6 at the end of 20 overs.
Among the CSK bowlers, Lungi Ngidi (1/26), Shardul Thakur (1/31), Karn Sharma (1/25), Dwayne Bravo (1/46) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/24) all got one wicket each.
In reply, CSK chased down that target easily thanks to the superb unbeaten century knock by the opener Shane Watson. While they lost another opener Faf du Plessis (10 runs) very early, Suresh Raina and Watson partnership helped the team to clinch a comfortable victory. Watson-Raina put a 117-run partnership for the second wicket while Raina scored 32 runs off 24 balls with 3 fours and only six.
The match hero Shane Watson scored an unbeaten 117 runs off 57 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes. His innings hugely helped the team to claim a comfortable victory in the crucial final game. In the end, Ambati Rayudu also scored an unbeaten 16 runs and helped Watson to secure the victory.
CSK chased down that target in 18.3 overs after losing just 2 wickets.
Among the SRH bowlers, only Sandeep Sharma (1/52) and Carlos Brathwaite (1/27) claimed one wicket each.

Tour de force performance by #CSK. I thought Sunrisers bowlers would put them under pressure, but fuelled by Watson's bionic hitting, target achieved with a lot to spare.

An unbeaten century in a successful run chase of a T20 final. Sensational Watson. And a timely reminder of the fact that #SRH conceded 4 centuries this season….arguably the best bowling line-up? #CSKvSRH #IPLFinal
