Former India opener Kris Srikkanth feels that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Suresh Raina needs to spend more time on the crease in order to make his team win. Srikkanth is disappointed with Raina’s approach in the recent past in the shortest format. He stated that attacking approach is neither helping the player nor the team. The Southpaw hasn’t been able to get the best of his performances as he has been looking good ever since his comeback.
Highlighting the role that Suresh Raina owes to the team given his all-around skills and his match-winning, Srikkanth mentioned, “Over the last decade, Suresh Raina’s form has been one of the key factors in the success of Chennai Super Kings. The latter is a different unit when Raina comes to the party. My observation of Raina since his comeback into the national T20 scheme of things is that he needs to give himself a few more deliveries to settle down in the middle before unleashing his range of shots.”

Advising the cricketer further, the former India selector also thinks that instead of rushing through his shots, Raina can prolong his innings and go after the attack later in the innings. He said, “I feel he is rushing through his strokes a touch early. It was evident on a few occasions in the IPL opener against Mumbai Indians, too, he tried to be aggressive from the start. If he can give himself some space in the initial phase of his innings, then he can go on to destroy any attack.”
Apart from Raina, Srikkanth expressed his views on the Carribean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, as his blistering knock of 68 in the opening game of the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) paved the way for a CSK for a win. He felt that Bravo has immense self-belief as he is a strike-bowler at the death as well for CSK.
Now when CSK’s comeback, they play their first home game against Kolkata on April 10. Mentioning about the adopted son of Chennai, MS Dhoni, Kris Srikkanth said, “Dhoni has always been a master tactician while operating his spin resources on tracks that offer assistance for the tweakers. The way he handles his spinners during the Powerplay is quite a treat to watch and his knowledge of the Chepauk pitch would be a big advantage.”
