During the 30th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Pune, Delhi Daredevils’ Liam Plunkett was taken aback after he conceded five sixes in his first two over against the Super Kings.
Having won the toss, Iyer decided to bowl first. The Daredevils fielded an unchanged playing eleven. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings made four changes to their playing eleven. Faf du Plessis, Karn Sharma, KM Asif and Lungi Ngidi were included in place of Sam Billings, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Imran Tahir.
After Shane Watson survived a close appeal on the first ball of the match, the Chennai batsmen took their time to egt their eye in. Credit should also be given to Daredevils’ bowlers who did not give many chances to Watson and du Plessis to open their arms.
Having said that, there was one bowler per se whom the two batsmen scored heavily against. Plunkett was introduced into the attack in the fifth over. On the third delivery of his first over, Watson pulled a half-tracker from Plunkett and dispatched it over the deep midwicket boundary. On the following delivery, Plunkett bowled a fuler delivery on Watson’s pads, which was again thwacked through the midwicket region for a six.
On the last ball of the over. du Plessis took it onto him to hit a six as he scooped a Plunkett delivery over the fine leg boundary.
Iyer didn’t replace Plunkett after he went for 20 runs in his first over. The third ball of his second over was hit by Watson over Plunkett’s head for a towering six. He repeated the result with a six over the deep square leg boundary boundary. Plunkett conceded 15 runs in his second over.
