During the 56th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Pune, Chennai Super Kings’ Lungi Ngidi put on record a supreme spell which saw him registering his best IPL figures.

On a quick Pune wicket, the Super Kings’ bowlers made the life of the opposition batsmen difficult. The swinging ball had made run-scoring a daunting task for the batsmen. The home team’s bowlers were led by Ngidi, who swung the ball at will in the powerplay.

Opening the bowling alongside Deepak Chahar, Ngidi dismissed Chris Gayle (0) on the second delivery that he bowled. Picking up one wicket, he didn’t concede any run from the bat in the over.

Lokesh Rahul (7), Kings XI Punjab’s highest run-scorer of the season, was the man which the Super Kings were looking to dismiss. In his second over, Ngidi bowled a flurry of out-swing deliveries to Rahul and followed it up with a delivery which came in. Once Rahul shouldered his arms to the ball, there was no one saving him.

Bowling his third over on the trot, Ngidi gave away six runs in which was the last over of the powerplay. He came back to bowl his last over as the 18th of the innings. On the second delivery, he induced the outside edge of Ravichandran Ashwin’s (0) bat which was taken behind the wickets by MS Dhoni.

A delivery later, Andrew Tye (0) became the fourth batsman to be dismissed by Ngidi in the innings. Ngidi ended up with bowling figures of 4-1-10-4. Watch the highlights of his spell:
