In the middle stage of Indian Premier League 2018, English pacer Mark Wood leaves Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to prepare for the upcoming home summer. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has called up four English cricketers from IPL and Wood is one of them.
In the 2018 IPL Auction, English right-arm pacer Mark Wood was bought by CSK for INR 1.5 crores. The 28-year-old pacer made his IPL debut in the season opener against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Mumbai on April 7 where he finished as wicket-less with the bowling figure of 4-0-49-0. It was the only game Wood played in his debutant IPL season.

Now, Wood will be available for Durham in the ongoing English county season before the beginning the of two-match home Test series against Pakistan from May 24.
During returning his home, Wood posted on his official Instagram account, “The decision has been made for me to return home to England to prepare for the English summer. Having worked so hard to get back into the test team, and because I’m not currently not in the CSK side, I am coming home to play for Durham to hopefully put my name in the hat for Test match selection.
In that post, Wood further thanked all CSK members including the fans and also mentioned his proud moment in this IPL which was getting the cap from CSK skipper MS Dhoni.
He further wrote, “To the CSK management, players and supporters, thanks so much for the support and welcoming me into this family club. It was a proud moment for me to be presented my cap by MS Dhoni.”

However, this will not affect much in the CSK squad as Wood was not the regular playing XI member. Currently, CSK is in a great form as they are one of the favorites to win this trophy. They are currently at the second position in the points table by earning 14 points in 10 games.
Apart from Wood, RCB all-rounder Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali and Rajasthan Royals’ all-rounder Ben Stokes have been called up by ECB.
