In the revamping auction of 2018, MI managed to maintain the winning core of their team as there five match-winners stayed with the squad. They, however, did not retain their opening combination from the last season. Mumbai opened with Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons last season, they do not possess any of these two this time.

Mumbai Indians replaced Lendl Simmons with another West Indian opener, Evin Lewis. The explosive batsman has already scored two T20I centuries for West Indies, both came against India. The left-hander is in a very good form as observed in the recent Qualifiers. No ground is big if he gets going.

Ishan Kishan is likely to be the opening partner of Evin Lewis. The 19-year old batsman-wicketkeeper who played for Gujarat Lions last year will be eager to make his impression early. In a recent charity T20 match played at the Wankhede, Kishan smashed 124*.
