Kolkata Knight Riders in a poor showing tonight failed to defeat the visitors as Sunrisers Hyderabad continued with their brilliant run in the IPL 2018. Despite a little struggle in the initial phase of chasing SRH managed to home with five wickets remaining in the bag. This is their first win at the Eden Gardens in the IPL. Here are some of the major reasons of the loss for the East Indian side.

The toss:

It is perhaps wrong to blame Dinesh Karthik for not winning the toss but looking at the trend of the IPL so far it is evident that winning the toss is paramount to the team’s success. The modus operandi so far has been to win the toss and choose to field first. The chasing team had had the advantage of conditions and a fixed target.

The chases in IPL 11 have been very much thrilling and many have reached the last ball to decide bu the chasing team with few exceptions has won regularly. KKR today had to bat first and they could only score 138.

Opening failures:

After having tremendous success with Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn at the top, the team management of KKR tonight decided to surprise the opposition by opening the batting with Robin Uthappa and Chris Lynn. The ploy did not work as Uthappa got out early.

Sunil Narine was then pushed at the number four. he struggled to connect and soon holed out for 9(10). The innings did not do any good for KKR and they failed at the opening and at utilizing Narine.
