Andre Russell’s failure

In the last match against Chennai Super Kings, KKR was in a difficult situation when they were five wickets down for 90. It was Andre Russell who resurrected the innings one-handedly and scored a magnificent 88* that included 11 mega sixes. He took the score of KKR past 200 and it took full might of CSK to chase it down.

Tonight in similar circumstances at the Eden Gardens, Andre Russell easily gave in to the temptations of hitting it big early. Without taking any time to settle down, he went to emulate his first six and skied a delivery. He got out for 9 and KKR just went downhill from there.

Lack of support from the middle order

After Robin Uthappa got out early, Chris Lynn ensured a good run-flow. Yes, he was edging a lot and there were many false shots, but he got the runs. The number three batsman tonight Nitish Rana tried his best but could get only 18 from 16 balls.

The new captain Dinesh Karthik did his bit to get the innings moving with 29 from 27 balls that included one six but it was not enough. Rest of the middle order that included Sunil Narine (9 runs), Andre Rusell (9 runs) and Shubhman Gill (3 runs) failed to deliver thus the small total.
