In the 12th game of IPL 2018, hosts Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) clinched a 4-run victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Mohali on Sunday night. While KXIP put 197/7 on the board in 20 overs after losing the toss, CSK was just 4 runs short from KXIP total as they scored 193/5 in 20 overs.

Chris Gayle (KXIP) – Playing his first game in this IPL season, Chris Gayle showed his stormy batting. The left-handed Caribbean batsman played a great knock of 63 runs off just 33 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. He completed his half-century in 22 balls and provided a flying start for the home team.

He won the Player of the Match award for his superb stormy batting performance.

Imran Tahir picked up two wickets in two balls.

Imran Tahir (CSK) – CSK leggie Imran Tahir was one of the best bowlers in that innings who had a bowling figure of 4-0-34-2. After dismissing the set batsman Mayank Agarwal, Tahir also trapped Aaron Finch for lbw in the very next delivery. As a result, Tahir was on a hat-trick chance but failed to claim that.

His spell was important for CSK as the hosts failed to cross the 200-run mark.

MS Dhoni (CSK) – The CSK skipper batted brilliantly till the end but just failed to secure their victory. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman was not out on 79 off 44 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes.

After taking some time in the early stage for settle down on the pitch, Dhoni showed his typical finishing style once again with the bat. The hosts KXIP just survived from his superb finishing.

Deepak Chahar (CSK) – The 25-year-old right-arm pacer was very expensive as his bowling figure was 3-0-37-0 with 12.33 economy rate. He bowled his all three overs in the powerplay where he conceded 22 runs in his last over.

Andrew Tye (KXIP) – Despite taking 2 wickets, Andrew Tye was very expensive as his bowling figure was 4-0-47-2. He bowled in the crucial 19th over when CSK needed 36 runs in 12 balls and he conceded 19 runs in that over.

Sam Billings

Sam Billings (CSK) – CSK’s last match hero Sam Billings failed to perform on his standard as he was dismissed after scoring just 9 runs off 8 balls. It was the crucial time when he was trapped for lbw by the hosts’ captain Ravichandran Ashwin. The right-handed batsman should stay on the crease at that time to provide a stability in the innings.
