In the 17th match of IPL 2018, hosts Chennai Super Kings claimed a big victory of 64-run against the visiting team Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune) on Friday night. CSK put a total of 204/5 in 20 overs while Rajasthan Royals was bundled out for just 140 runs in 18.3 overs.
Rajasthan skipper Ajinkya Rahane decided to field first after winning the toss. CSK opener Shane Watson batted superbly in this match as he scored a brilliant century. After Rahul Tripathi dropped Watson in the slip during the first over of the innings as he was batting on just 8 runs, Watson punished the opponent side with 106 runs knock off 57 balls with 9 fours and 6 sixes.
While another opener Ambati Rayudu (12) departed just after the quick-fire 50-run opening partnership, Watson put a superb 81-run partnership with Suresh Raina for the second wicket. Raina dominated that partnership as he scored 46 runs off 29 balls with 9 fours.
After Raina’s dismissal, while other new CSK batsmen were struggling to score runs, Watson took the responsibility to secure a big total for the team. Watson completed his century in 51 balls and he was dismissed in 19.5 overs after CSK crossed the 200-run mark. At the end of the innings, Dwayne Bravo also played a small quick knock of unbeaten 24 runs off 16 balls.
As a result, CSK put the total of 204/5 in 20 overs.
Among the RR bowlers, only Shreyas Gopal (3/20) and Ben Laughlin (2/38) claimed at least one wicket.
In reply, Rajasthan batsmen surrendered against the hosts’ bowlers as they were bowled out for just 140 runs in 18.3 overs. English duo Ben Stokes (45 runs) and Jos Buttler (22 runs) were the top two scorers in that innings as none of the other visiting batsmen reached the 20-run mark.
CSK bowlers did the very good job with the ball. Deepak Chahar (2/30), Shardul Thakur (2/18), Dwayne Bravo (2/16) and Karn Sharma (2/13) got two wickets each while Shane Watson (1/13) and Imran Tahir (1/44) were able to pick up one wicket each.

Fewer sixes than Gayle in his century, but also fewer balls to reach three-figure mark. This is a top class century by Shane Watson…

What a resounding win for @ChennaiIPL . Watson century, Raina scoring runs, all bowlers chipping in , adapting very quickly to the new home, Pune. But the #WhistlePodu express train idea and the support of the fans for me was the standout. The most amazing fans #CSKvsRR

After some crap bowling and shoddy fielding, great catch by Gowtham to dismiss Raina. Rajasthan need 2-3 more pronto to get back into game
