In his first match against Kings XI Punjab, Prithvi Shaw made his debut and became the youngest opener in the IPL. He bats uninhibitedly and it showed up in his brief struggle. His 22 runs came in only 10 balls with four fours.

Against KKR, he became the youngest half-centurion in the IPL. He scored a brilliant 62 which was full of attractive shots. He failed against CSK but he scored 47 off 25 against Rajasthan Royals. Against the best bowling line-up of Hyderabad, Shaw smacked 65 from 36 balls with six fours and three sixes.
