On Sunday evening, in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered an 8-wicket defeat (with 6 balls to spare) against the hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune).
CSK captain MS Dhoni forced SRH to bat first after winning the toss. With the help of superb batting performances by the opener Shikhar Dhawan and no.3 skipper batsman Kane Williamson, SRH was able to put 179/4 on the board at the end of 20 overs.
In reply, CSK easily chased down that target after a superb opening partnership between the openers Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu. Rayudu was not out after completing his century as CSK reached the target in 19 overs after losing just 2 wickets.
Now, we will briefly talk about some important reasons for SRH’s defeat in this game.
Slow Start
SRH had the very slow start in their innings. While their opener Alex Hales was dismissed for just 2 runs, another opener Shikhar Dhawan and no.3 skipper batsman Kane Williamson were focusing for steady innings but their starts were too slow. At the end of the powerplay, SRH only managed to score 29/1.
Though Dhawan and Williamson put a big partnership, their slow starts became the key point for SRH to not putting a big total on the board.
