In the 52nd game of IPL 2018, the hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) claimed a victory after beating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi) on Friday night. DD managed to score 162/5 in 20 overs which CSK failed to chase down as they were restricted for 128/6 at the end of 20 overs.

CSK lost to Delhi

CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to bat first after winning the toss. Delhi top-order batsmen struggled as they failed to provide the good starts. The openers Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer were dismissed on 17 and 19 runs respectively.

While no.3 batsman Rishabh Pant scored 38 runs, Glenn Maxwell (5 runs) and Abhishek Sharma (2 runs) departed cheaply.

When DD was struggling on 97/5 in 14.4 overs, Vijay Shankar and Harshal Patel’s batting helped the team to put a good total on the board. Their unbroken 65-run partnership for the sixth wicket helped the team to score 162/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Both the batsmen were unbeaten on 36 runs but Harshal Patel scored that in just 16 balls while Vijay Shankar scored in 28 balls.

Among the CSK bowlers, Lungi Ngidi (2/14) got two wickets while Deepak Chahar (1/23), Ravindra Jadeja (1/19) and Shardul Thakur (1/27) picked up one wicket each.

In reply, CSK openers Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu provided a good 46-run partnership but the middle-order batting failure cost the game. Apart from Ambati Rayudu’s (50 runs off 29 balls) half-century and Ravindra Jadeja’s (unbeaten on 27 runs off 18 balls) finishing touch, no other batsmen provided the important support for CSK to chase the target.

Opener Shane Watson was dismissed on 14 runs while Suresh Raina (15 runs), MS Dhoni (17 runs), Sam Billings (1 run) and Dwayne Bravo (1 run) were departed cheaply. As a result, CSK only managed to score 128/6 at the end of 20 overs.

Among the Delhi bowlers, Trent Boult (2/20) and Amit Mishra (2/20) grabbed two wickets each while Sandeep Lamichhane (1/21) and Harshal Patel (1/23) got one wicket each.
