IPL Auctions play the biggest role in the IPL team formation. Before the IPL, the franchises get an opportunity to maintain the core of the team together by choosing to retain maximum three players from the team that played in the last season. With CSK and RR returning to the fold after two years, they were given a chance to retain their team from 2015. Now with more than half the season gone, let’s assess how the retentions have fared so far

Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja

There is no Chennai team without MS Dhoni at least that’s how the equation shapes up right now. The man has been revived and he is batting as if he is batting in 2006 once again. His strike rate in the season has been spectacular and he has already taken Chennai home in thrilling chases. Dhoni has already struck more sixes than ever in a single IPL season.

The pair of Dhoni-Raina stays in the hearts of every Chennai fan. Raina has the record for featuring for the most number of consecutive matches for a franchise and also scored the most runs in the IPL history. Even in this season, he has performed well for CSK and has scored whenever required.

CSK had severely under-utilized Jadeja in the early phase of this IPL. He hardly bowled any overs in the first few matches for Chennai and his late batting had also not been up to the mark. Jaddu proved his worth in the match against RCB at Pune where he took three wickets including that of Virat Kohli.
