During the 17th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at Pune, Chennai Super Kings’ Shardul Thakur, whilst in his follow-through, ran down to complete an eyeful catch. His effort saw the Royals further going down in their chase.
After Ajinkya Rahane put them to bat first, Chennai Super Kings ended up scoring 204-5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Their mammoth total was mainly due to Shane Watson’s third IPL hundred, 106 (57), with the help of nine fours and six sixes.
Rajasthan Royals were hit early in the chase so much so that they ended up losing three top-order wickets in the powerplay itself. Regular fall of wickets and a mounting required run rate saw them collapsing in the chase.
On the third delivery of the 16th over, Thakur bowled a short-pitch delivery to Binny at the off-stump, who failed to defend it in an appropriate way. The ball lobbed in the air off Binny’s bat. Thakur, who hadn’t even completed his follow-through as yet, ran swiftly to grab the catch. Binny ended up scoring 10 (8) with the help of one four.
