During the fifth match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at Chennai, Sunil Narine failed to convert a breathtaking start into a match-winning innings as he was dismissed by Harbhajan Singh in only his first over.
MS Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, had earlier won the toss and chose to field in an IPL match which is happening in Chennai after a couple of years. Kolkata Knight Riders opted to continue with their opening pair of Narine and Chris Lynn.
Narine faced the fourth ball of the innings as his first one, which ended up being a wide delivery. After inside-edging his first delivery to square leg, he followed it with a monstrous six over long-on. Deepak Chahar did not learn from the previous ball as he ended up bowling another ball on the same line and length. Narine gained on the opportunity to replicate the previous shot, only that the ball travelled further into the crowd this time.
With Knight Riders scoring 18 runs in the first over, they looked set for a high-scoring powerplay. Dhoni introduced spin in the form of Harbhajan Singh in the second over itself. The experienced campaigner did not waste much time in affecting a dismissal. The first ball that he bowled to Narine was a flighted delivery outside the off-stump, Narine did not hold back as he played a slog.
To his disappointment, the ball went up high in the air only to be caught brilliantly by Suresh Raina. Narine ended up scoring 12 (4) with the help of six sixes. Watch the full video:
