During the 35th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Pune, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Tim Southee grabbed a brilliant catch on the boundary to dismiss Suresh Raina.
After being put in to bat by MS Dhoni, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 127-9 in 20 overs. They lost wickets from the starting and their batsmen’s inability to stand by Parthiv Patel led to a dismal batting performance. Apart from Patel and Tim Southee, no other RCB batsman reached the double digits.
Defending such a low total, wickets were the primary requirements for the Royal Challengers. Having lost Shane Watson in the third over, Chennai Super Kings recovered from that position to build a decent partnership. It was at this point in time that Southee’s brilliance made way for Raina to walk back to the pavilion.
It happened on the third ball of the ninth over when Raina pulled an Umesh Yadav delivery to Southee at long on, who timed his jump to perfection to get his hands on the ball. Just when momentum was taking him over the boundary rope, he lobbed the ball in the air and came back on to the field to take the catch. Raina ended up scoring 25 (21) with the help of two fours and a six.
