3. War of the Nineties – Rohit Sharma against Virat Kohli
April 17th, Mumbai Indians versus Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai
The match at Wankhede Stadium was, as usual, a high-scoring one. The match was lit by two high-class innings played by two of the best Indian batsmen. Both failed just short to complete their centuries but the fans in attendance were treated to two mesmerizing knocks.
Batting first, it was Evin Lewis who provided the momentum to the innings early and eased the pressure on Rohit Sharma. He was struggling in the tournament so far and needed big innings. He duly arrived in form with a stunning effort of 94 from 52 balls with 10 fours and five sixes.
Chasing the high total, all the eyes were on Virat Kohli to lead the way. He started off brilliantly and made his intentions clear from ball one. Once he lost De Kock and De Villiers, Kohli went into a shell and scored runs at a moderate pace. He revived himself in the death overs and ended up with 92* from 62 balls.
