On the last night, DD skipper Shreyas Iyer decided to field first after winning the toss. CSK had a great opening start as the openers Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis put a 102-run partnership. While Faf was dismissed for 33 runs, Watson scored 78 runs before getting caught out.

Later, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni provided a superb thrashing 79-run partnership for the fourth wicket which helped the team to cross the 200-run mark. Dhoni played a firing knock as he was unbeaten on 51 runs off just 22 balls while in-form Rayudu scored 41 runs off 24 balls.
