The debate on ‘Mankading’ a batsman is not going to ease away anytime soon. What Ravichandran Ashwin did to Jos Buttler on this Monday in Jaipur will be discussed for a long time. Everyone have their share of advice over this issue. Some see Ashwin’s act out of spirit while others believe what he did is so under the laws.

This is one of the most controversial ways to dismiss any batsman for a long time. Legendary Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad attempted first such kind of way to dismiss batsman when he ran out Australian Bill Brown in 1947 for backing up too far.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricket Aakash Chopra insisted other bowlers to ‘Mankad’ more and more batsman. Over the same debate, Chopra believes Ashwin was not out of sportsman spirit and he stopped Buttler from taking undue advantage.

On the other hand, the other half slammed Ashwin for not warning Buttler (which is not required by the law) and seemingly pausing his in bowling stride and waiting for him to move out of the crease in a normal way before mankading him. Chopra cited an example of Wednesday’s match between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders and shared a picture of the match in which KXIP’s Mayank Agarwal was well out of his crease when Andre Russell was about to deliver the ball.

Chopra called it as a missed opportunity and asked bowlers to opt for more such kind of dismissal and prevent the 22-yard pitch from becoming just 20 yards long.

On Twitter, he wrote “Missed Opportunity….more bowlers need to start running batsmen out at the non-striker’s end. It’s a 22-yard pitch…don’t let them make it 20 yards.”

On the back of Buttler’s timely wicket, Punjab made a strong comeback in the game and eventually won the match by 14 runs in Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Stadium.
