Whenever it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL), the news of betting gets popped up every now and then and the ongoing 12th season can’t be an exception. The cops have been actively working on keeping it under check and recently arrested a group of individuals from the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for being involved in betting.
The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match was one of the most entertaining games of the season as batsmen from both the teams were seen slogging the bowlers. It had everything, from a century from Virat Kohli, his fifth in the tournament history, to an impactful 66 in 28 balls from Moeen Ali, which took the RCB team to a formidable 213 runs.

During the chase, KKR started on a rough note, with the top four batsmen dismissed early in the innings, and they eat up some deliveries as well, which came back to haunt them in the end. Then Nitish Rana (85*) and Andre Russell started running through the RCB bowlers bringing down the equation to 24 runs in the last over and fell short by just 10 runs.
While the two teams were fighting it out in a high-scoring game, there were those with ill-disposed intentions also present in the stands of the Eden Gardens. The cops were alert and caught them from the 60,000 odd fans present at the stadium on Friday night.

A team of Anti Rowdy Squad (ARS) and Detective Department (DD) arrested a group of seven people from F1 Block at Eden Gardens for their involvement in cricket betting, the police said. These people were placing bets on the match between RCB and KKR. 14 mobile phones and one betting accessory was also seized from their possessions.
Describing the same, the Kolkata police said, “The group was nabbed on Friday after the ARS and DD received information from a source regarding betting at Eden Gardens for VIVO Indian Premier League cricket match, which was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).”
