Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) misery remained unsolved despite winning one game in the Indian Premier League 2019 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Saturday. They lost their seventh game against Mumbai Indians (MI) and are currently sitting on the last position among eight teams. If they want to qualify, they are required to win all their remaining six games.

This seems to be a tough ask for Bangalore but their leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is optimistic about RCB’s chances to feature in the playoffs. There have been only four instances in 11-year-old history of IPL that a team qualified for playoffs with only 14 points to their name. Rajasthan Royals achieved this feat in last year’s IPL.

“If we win the next six games we can qualify. Last year a team had qualified with 14 points, so still, we are in the game. You never know what will happen next,” Chahal was quoted as saying by India Today.

Talking about yesterday’s game, where RCB gave 22 runs in six balls to lost the game, Chahal said “The pitch was offering turn and it wasn’t easy to score against the spinners. We bowled well till the 18th over barring a couple of bad overs in the Powerplay and still, there were two overs and 24 runs (22) left. We had a chance on this track but Hardik did well.”

Chahal has been picked in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be held in England and Wales. It will be his first appearance in the World Cup and he looked excited to play his part for India.

RCB is to win six remaining games in order to finish in top-four

“It is my first World Cup. I’m very excited for that. Everyone wants to represent the country in the World Cup, so I’m excited,” Chahal concluded.
