Before the IPL 2019 Auction, the three-time IPL champions, including IPL 2018, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) needed only two Indian players to fulfill their squad and they made it comfortably by picking up Mohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The triad of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja is expected to play a crucial role for CSK this season as well, especially after lifting the trophy in the last season. Rain and Jadeja have a point to prove as they have been overlooked and underestimated in recent times, especially the latter as he is only in contention for ICC World Cup 2019.

Much onus relies on the Indian fast bowling department also as there is no one who has lots of experience in either IPL or T20Is. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar will have their task cut-off. The spin department is much more solid with Harbhajan Singh and Jadeja. They also have Karn Sharma and Imran Tahir as back-up.

Kedar Jadhav and Ambati Rayudu are all experienced batsmen and they know their role very well. They will have to provide the platform and also ensured the increased run-rate.

Foreign Contingent:

CSK has the African young sensation Lungi Ngidi, he will play a crucial role this season as he did a decent job last year in the few chances he has got. Even with Dwayne Bravo in the squad, they have the most successful bowler in the T20s. Faf Du Plessis will provide stability to the batting order. Sam Billings and Mark Wood will enjoy the platform to make a name for themselves.
