The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) battled it out with Delhi Capitals (DC) at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam to become the second finalist of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After winning the toss, the CSK skipper, MS Dhoni decided to bowl first and they registered an easy win to reach the final.
The men in yellow got the prized wicket of Prithvi Shaw in the third over bowled by Deepak Chahar owing to the brilliant DRS call by Dhoni. In the previous over of Shardul Thakur, Shikhar Dhawan had smashed as many as 13 runs. DC lost the plot after that as they kept on losing wickets on a regular basis as from 37/2 after the powerplay, Delhi was reduced to 80/5.
After that, Rishabh Pant was making a partnership with Sherfane Rutheford, but the latter got out in the 16th over of Harbhajan Singh. However, Pant, who was looking to slow in the last over, was also dismissed Chahar in the penultimate innings and the final over was being bowled by Ravindra Jadeja and he was smashed for a six on the second ball of the over Trent Boult, but he had his revenge on the very next ball.
Delhi was reduced to 137/9 and Ishant Sharma was the 11th batsman and he finished the innings with a four and a six on the last two balls. Eventually, Delhi reached the total of 147/9 in their quota of 20 overs as they gathered as many as 28 runs in the last two overs.
During the chase, in the first over itself, a huge confusion occurred between the CSK openers, Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson, but it didn’t result in any wicket. They started slowly as they scored just 42 runs in the powerplay but didn’t lose the wicket and amassed as many as 81 runs for the first wicket before Du Plessis getting out in the 11th over of Boult.
In the very next over of Keemo Paul, Watson smashed as many as 25 runs and completed his fifty. However, he was then dismissed by Amit Mishra in the 13th over. Suresh Raina was got dismissed soon, but Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu almost took CSK over the line. Unfortunately, an anti-climax occurred when Dhoni attempted to finish the game with a six, but eventually, Chennai reached their 8th IPL final in 10 seasons by defeated Delhi by 6 wickets and as many balls to spare.
However, a funny incident took place as after the game the official Facebook page of IPL posted a picture declaring the winner and accidentally they announced that Delhi had won the game by 6 wickets:
