Delhi Capitals hosted Mumbai Indians with hopes to strengthen their position on the points table. Mumbai won the toss and opted to bat first while naming several changes in their squad. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock gave their team a blazing start and Mumbai raced to 57/0 inside the powerplay. Rohit got out the ball after and it opened the floodgates for Delhi spinners. Amit Mishra and Axar Patel slowed down the proceedings for Mumbai but Pandya brothers’ cameo put them into a commanding position with a blistering finish. Hardik’s 15-ball 32 runs took their total to 168/5 in 20 overs, out of which 50 runs came in last three overs.

Delhi had a similar start to what Mumbai got. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw scored quick runs during first six overs to take Delhi 48 for no loss. But Rahul Chahar turned the match from here on with a stunning spell, where he grabbed three wickets. All of sudden, Delhi found themselves reeling at 76/5. Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga finished the job from here on and restricted Delhi for 128/9 in 20 overs to win the match by 40 runs. Have a look at the reasons, which cost Delhi the game.

Serious pelting in death overs

Mumbai was at 104/3 in 15 overs and they lost Suryakumar Yadav on the very next ball. But Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya came together to rescue Mumbai’s ship this time around. Both batted sensibly and scored quick runs in death overs. The last three overs of Mumbai innings were cashed for 50 runs, which boosted their total to 168 in 20 overs.

Not capitalizing on a good start

Delhi was given a good start by Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw as both shared 49 runs for the opening wicket in 6.3 overs. But no other batsmen tried to form a partnership and got out cheaply. Once Dhawan was dismissed by Rahul Chahar, everyone else looked in hurry to return to the dressing room. Delhi lost their five wickets for 27 runs, which made a huge difference in the end.

Spin to win

Feroz Shah Kotla’s pitch was assisting the spinners from the very beginning. First, Delhi spinners pulled Mumbai down despite a good start. Amit Mishra and Axar Patel were bowling in a good tandem and dismissed two batsmen combined. On the other hand, Mumbai spinners were far better on the very same track. Rahul Chahar alone dismissed three batsmen apart from one wicket grabbed by Krunal Pandya. Mumbai spinners gave just 51 runs in 10 overs they bowled. This proved a match-changing factor for Mumbai.
