Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is among the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League history. They won two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 under the talismanic leadership of Gautam Gambhir, who revived KKR from a struggling team to be among the most-strong team. Although Gambhir was not retained by the team management, the team still looks strong on papers.

Dinesh Karthik was named the skipper of KKR last year and led them to the third place in IPL 2018. He was among the runs throughout the season and led them from the front but his team had some loopholes. The franchise went for expensive buys and forgot to make a balanced team. That is why they roped in for bowling option this time around, who can give them the required X factor, which they missed last year.

He played for England in 2014, where he featured in 10 One-Day Internationals along with two T20Is. In the T20 format, he has played in Big Bash League for Melbourne Renegades and Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators. The left-arm pacer is known for his clever variations, which comes handy in T20. He has 145 T20 wickets to his name at an average of just under 23 and his economy rate is worth noticing. In a time, where bowlers have the toughest role in T20 cricket, Gurney keeps his economy in check at 7.71. Hence, KKR is eagerly looking towards him to do wonders in his maiden IPL season.
