Over the years the Indian Premier League (IPL) has often been considered one of the grandest stages of T20 cricket and the 15th edition of the tournament has witnessed a topsy turvy curve so far. Approximately 40 matches have been played and the qualification scenario seems to be very tight as there are more than two teams competing for the same spot. The five-time champions Mumbai Indians and the defending champs Chennai Super Kings have witnessed a forgettable outing in the season so far.

Mumbai has lost 8 matches on the trot and Chennai just scampering through a couple of wins. It’s been the season of firsts as Gujarat and Lucknow, both the new franchises have made an exquisite start to their IPL campaigns with both the teams taking sports in the top four. Rajasthan and Hyderabad had done a magnificent job at the auction tables to be sitting in the top four along with the likes of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Punjab, Delhi, and Kolkata have emerged as good teams in terms of building a balanced squad in the auction for the coming seasons. Although, they have not been majorly impressive in the tournament so far courtesy of the inability of the players and related injuries. The points table seems quite different from the patterns of the previously held fourteen successful seasons in IPL.

This is the beauty of the Indian Premier League that every team is as strong as its competition and the fact that no one can predict the outcome of any match on a given day. However, Imran Tahir, the legendary South African spinner who spent most of his time in the IPL with the Chennai SuperKings names his top four teams that could qualify to the playoff.

Imran Tahir opined that both the new entrants will definitely make it to the playoffs alongside the veterans, Rajasthan Royals, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. These could well turn out to be right but as we know, in the IPL the net run rate is an important component of any team and with the advent of two new teams it will only turn out to be more productive.
