The second game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be played between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI). MI has won 5 IPL titles so far whereas DC is still searching for its maiden title. Delhi Capitals got close to their maiden title in 2021 but lost to KKR in the all-important Qualifier 2. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians failed to make it to the playoffs in the last season, due to their poor NRR. There have been a lot of changes in both squads, and also a few notable retentions.

Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma will continue leading their respective franchises in this season as well. Ishan Kishan, the most expensive buy of IPL 2022 Mega Auctions, will be seen in Mumbai colors again.  With the young talents, they also have the experience of Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah in their squad. For the Capitals, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Nortje would be unavailable for the first week of the season.

However, DC also has a mix of young and experienced players in their squad like every year. Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, and Axar Patel are some of the crucial names for them in this season. Once they have their full-strength squad, they will be expected to be a team to beat in this tournament. There are also a couple of U-19 boys to look out for in the DC squad, Yash Dhull, and Vicky Ostwal.

Both teams have faced each other on 30 occasions, with Mumbai Indians winning 16 games while Delhi Capitals bucketing 14 of them. Another thriller is anticipated here, with both teams filled with big names in their ranks.

Delhi Capitals will be missing the likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Lungi Ngidi, Mustafizur Rahman, and Anrich Nortje. While David Warner and Mitchell Marsh are out on national duty, Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman are serving Quarantine. Whereas Anrich Nortje would need a few matches to recover from injury. With these 5 overseas players missing, and 3 of them being confirmed starters, it would be interesting to see who replaces them.

Starting with the top-order, Delhi Capitals will be expected to open with Tim Seifert and Prithvi Shaw. At number 3, KS Bharat could be given a go. The middle-lower-order shall see skipper, Rishabh Pant at 4, Sarfaraz Khan at 5, Rovman Powell at 6, and Axar Patel at 7. Coming to bowling, Shardul Thakur and Chetan Sakariya are potential starters as fast bowlers. With Nortje unavailable, Khaleel Ahmed should definitely get a go. The final spot could see a toss-up between spinner Kuldeep Yadav and pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

Probable XI: Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, KS Bharat, Rishabh Pant (C&WK), Sarfaraz Khan, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Yadav & Khaleel Ahmed

Mumbai Indians may not be as badly hit as the Delhi Capitals camp, but they will be missing Suryakumar Yadav. The star batter is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Coming to the playing 11, Mumbai Indians should continue seeing skipper, Rohit Sharma and dynamic Ishan Kishan opening the batting with young Tilak Varma at no.3. Following these two shall be the dynamic duo of Kieron Pollard and Tim David. The lower-order looks slightly below-par with the likes of Sanjay Yadav and Fabien Allen.

The bowling attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah and he will be getting support from Daniel Sams and Tymal Mills. But with SKY not there, MI needs an additional battery, and they can play Dewald Brevis at 3 or Fabien Allen at 6. But Fabien Supporting Bumrah and Sams shall be Jaydev Unadkat and Murugan Ashwin. The batting line-up may be slightly thin, but the bowling attack looks stronger. Overall, Mumbai Indians can actually give a run for the money to Delhi Capitals.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Tilak Varma, Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Fabien Allen, Sanjay Yadav, Daniel Sams, Jaydev Unadkat, Murugan Ashwin & Jasprit Bumrah
