In the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be locking horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. It will be the second game of the doubleheader and this will be an important match for both the teams.

The Lucknow team is now third on the table with 6 points and a win will take their tally to 8 points and KL Rahul’s side can then start thinking of reaching the play-offs. On the other hand, the Rajasthan Royals are coming off a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the RR under Sanju Samson would not like another slip-up.

A defeat can shackle them to 4 points and among the teams in the bottom half. It would become increasingly tough for them as mathematical calculations like net run rate could possibly come into play at a later stage. So, the RR would be eager to bag two points from the RR vs LSG match, go up to 6, and have some sort of cushion in the race to the play-offs.

RR can use R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal in the powerplay purely to put a stopper on Quinton de Kock. It worked for SRH when they had Washington Sundar bowl in the powerplay and scalp de Kock for 1. Chahal has been pretty effective against Rahul too with the skipper only scoring at a strike rate of 106 against the legspinner. RR could also consider leaving out Jasiwal, opening with Padikkal, and roping in Neesham which gives them an added bowling option.

Probable XI: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal/Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jimmy Neesham, Navdeep Saini, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal

Jason Holder opened the bowling for LSG against Delhi Capitals and he could be used in the early overs against RR as well, especially if a wicket falls in the powerplay. Holder has dismissed Samson twice, with the ‘keeper-bat averaging just 17 against him. Avesh Khan may be held back for the middle overs given how Buttler has found success against him, striking at an explosive 318.18.

Probable XI: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Evin Lewis, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Krunal Pandya, Jason Holder, Krishnappa Gowtham, Andrew Tye, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan

Jos Buttler (C), Lokesh Rahul, Quinton de Kock (VC), Devdutt Padikkal, Deepak Hooda, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna
