Delhi Capitals won by 7 runs over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 24. Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat first. Delhi Capitals managed to post 144 runs in 20 overs where no batter could manage to score a 50+ score as well. Manish Pandey and Axar Patel scored 34 each as well. While chasing, Sunrisers Hyderabad got a poor start as Harry Brook got out for 7. Mayank Agarwal scored 49 whereas Heinrich Klaasen managed to hit 31. But their efforts went in vain as they managed 137 runs, eventually losing the game. Axar Patel picked up 2 wickets as well.

Here is what the captains and the player of the match said after the game:

Axar Patel, Player of the Match said as quoted by Cricbuzz: (What gave him more joy, his batting or bowling returns?) 2/21 since I scored 34 in 34 so the two wickets were more important. I ordered for coffee and I left the glass like that, when three wickets fell in one over. Pandey and I discussed we need to take it as deep as possible. (On the surface) It was slow, the ball was coming off slowly. I felt that me and Kuldeep can tie up the batters on this surface, so it was enjoyable. (Whose wicket did he enjoy more, Mayank’s or Markram’s?) I keep getting wickets in the form of knocking over batters but getting a wicket off the slower one (Mayank’s wicket) was more enjoyable.

David Warner, DC captain said as quoted by Cricbuzz: Love it here, it’s an amazing crowd, they always come here and support. Thanks for all the support. The game throws us challenges, for us, it’s great to get two points. Mukesh under pressure was amazing. Well done to him and the the two spinners, they’ve been our rock. These two are experienced bowlers, they are never going to let you down. From day one, he (Ishant) kept on telling me that was he ready. Unfortunately he was sick few games before but credit to him. He’s worked very hard to get back into the IPL. To get an opportunity and to bowl upfront like he has, that’s exceptional. We spoke about it at the end of 0 (wins) out of 5 (games), that teams have won before from there. Hopefully we can make it three in a row. We’ve got back-to-back games against Sunrisers, so we have to start again.

Anrich Nortje said as quoted by Cricbuzz: Really happy to get the win, still not the ideal performance, a few runs short but the bowlers did really well. They were saying there’s some inconsistency on the good lengths, that was the message. Trying to keep it as simple as possible, trying to focus on the target and go. (Plan against Klaasen) I’m not going to lie, the plan wasn’t to ball half-volleys but you get a sense of where the batter wants to hit. (On Mukesh) He was very clear with the plans and he focused. He took his time and executed it well, that was really inspiring.

Aiden Markram, SRH captain said as quoted by Cricbuzz: Not good with the bat. Not enough intent, not excited to win a game of cricket unfortunately. We have to go back and see how we can be free and be better. It is difficult, you can say all the right things but guys have to buy into it. We want to play a certain brand of cricket and if we get it wrong doing that then we’ll sleep a lot better at night. Tonight we lacked intent, unfortunately we are letting us down because of a lack of intent. I would love to do that to be honest, something I quite enjoy doing, guys need to work hard [on motivating the team]. Incredibly proud of them, kept it pretty simple and used the conditions really well. Our bowling does not deserve to be on the losing side but a small bit of positivity I suppose.
