IPL 2024 has started with a bang with 5 matches have taken place so far. All teams played their first match where some shined but others failed to leave a mark.
Here is how all teams performed in the first week of IPL 2024:
Match 1: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings – Chennai Super Kings won by 6 wickets.
Hits: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) didn’t have a good start where barring Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik could manage to step up with the bat. Cameron Green also picked up 2 wickets. On the other hand, Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their campaign with a comfortable victory where almost all the batters have contributed. Moreover, Mustafizur bowled a stunning spell of 4/29 in his four-over spell.
Misses: RCB bowlers couldn’t do well against CSK where their key players went wicketless. Moreover, their middle orders failed to step up with the bat. On the other hand, Tushar Deshpande and Theekshana failed to shine in their campaign opener.
Match 2: Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings – Punjab Kings won by 4 wickets.
Hits: Punjab Kings started the tournament with a win over Delhi Capitals. Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone left with a mark with their bat. Delhi Capitals batters got the start but failed to capitalize on that. However, Axar Patel did pretty well whereas young Abishek Porel played a quickfire 32* off 10.
Misses: While DC batters need to score quickly, their bowlers need to be consistent. Meanwhile, Khaleel Ahmed and Mitchell Marsh should bowl with proper line and length so that they can be effective in their next matches as well.
Match 3: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – Kolkata Knight Riders won by 4 runs.
Hits: Andre Russell stepped up with both the bat and the ball whereas Sunil Narine did exceptionally well with the ball. T Natarajan claimed 3 wickets alongside batters who have stepped up. Heinrich Klaasen played a quick knock also.
Misses: The top and middle order failed to shine for KKR whereas SRH bowlers need to step up especially pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Match 4: Rajasthan Royals vs Lucknow Super Giants – Rajasthan Royals won by 20 runs.
Hits: Rajasthan Royals players did well in both the bat and the ball where both Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag made headlines. Meanwhile, only Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul played well for LSG.
Misses: The middle order for LSG needs to step up.
Match 5: Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians – Gujarat Titans won by 6 runs.
Hits: Jasprit Bumrah did well with 3 scalps. Barring him, others need to shine for Mumbai.
Misses: Middle-order for Gujarat Titans need to fire to back the good start by the openers.
